Water May be Prevalent Throughout the Universe June 26, 2000 The discovery that there may have recently been flowing surface water on Mars is but one of many findings that relate to the presence of water throughout the universe. For instance, recent studies indicate that water may be produced in association with star formation. Also, while the possible discovery of water on Mars is exciting, it has been thought for some time that Mars has frozen water (ice) on its North pole, and it appears possible that Mars once had oceans. It is also thought that Europa, one of Jupiter's larger moons, possesses an ice-covered ocean. Finally, the ISO Space Telescope has observed water vapor throughout our Solar System and galaxy.
