Bell-Lab Scientists Image Mysterious Dark Matter

August 15, 2000   Using a novel tomographic reconstruction system that exploits the presence of gravitational lensing, scientists at Bell Laboratories have imaged the dark matter which coexists with normal matter -- in and around a cluster of galaxies. In the picture shown below, the dark matter can be seen as a broad envelope on top of which normal galaxies appear as sharp pinnacles. For more information about these results, please click here.
