Amateur Astronomer Discovers New Comet;
Used SOHO Satellite Data Posted on Internet

August 29, 2000  Using real-time data posted on the internet, Michael Oates, a British amateur astronomer, has recently discovered a new comet -- just before it was destroyed by the sun. The data was from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) satellite. Such data is posted on the internet and is updated regularly.  BBC Article.
